Saving lives of low birth weight babies (LBW) Rational : Rural India has high (Over 30%) prevalence of LBW babies and they not only have high risk for morbidity and mortality but also have high risk of metabolic disorders among survivors. Approach : Donating Baby warmers to Primary Health Centres (PHC) in rural area. Give a Baby sleeping bag for each mother at the time of discharge from the PHC after delivery as many mothers would not enough baby cloths to provide the much needed warmth. The third aspect of the project was to offer training to ASHA workers about supplementary foods to be offered the baby after 6months as it is known that malnutrition in India essentially sets in due to lack of supplementary foods appropriate in quality and quantity. Moreover, ASHA workers are the only contact between the mother and the health infrastructure.
