Rotary Club of Chinchwad And Department of English, Prof. Ramkrishna More Arts, Commerce and Science College One Day Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) on ‘Developing the Leader in You’ Rotary Club of Chinchwad and the Department of English, Prof. Ramkrishna More Arts, Commerce and Science College, Akurdi jointly organized a one day Rotary Youth Leadership Award on “Developing the Leader in You” on 12th August 2015. The programme was conducted on the occasion of the International Youth Day. 188 Graduate, Post-graduate and Research students attended the one day workshop. The Inaugural function commenced with the National Anthem followed by the Introductory Remarks by Rtn. Dr. Shilpagauri Ganpule, Director, Youth, Rotary Club Chinchwad. In her remarks Dr. Ganpule spoke about the role of Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) in inspiring and nurturing leaders of tomorrow. The objective of RYLA is to enhance the leadership qualities of the young generation and to inspire them to be the responsible citizens. Dr. Mohan Palesha, Past District Governor, Rotary District 3131 presided over as the Chief Guest of the programme. While addressing the students, Mr. Palesha said, “The majority of the Indian population is in the age group of 18-35. It means that we have a wide scope to leaders in Information Technology, Science and most developing fields. We need modest and humble leaders to lead the country. In his address, the Chairperson and the Principal of the college, Dr. Nitin Ghorpade expressed his views on the need for motivated and efficient leaders. Leaders are inspired individuals who motivate others to bring out the best in themselves. President of Rotary, Chinchwad Dr. Sanjeev Datye explained the role of RYLA in moulding students in their formative years so that they can identify and enhance their leadership qualities. Assistant Governor PP Rtn. Prasad Ganpule, Secretary Rtn. Aravind Godase, First Lady Ann. Dr. Amruta Datye, Assistant Goverrnor Rtn. Sunil Jejurikar and PP Rtn. Sanjay Deodhar graced the occasion. Ann Madhura Shivapurkar, Ann Shubhada Godase, Ann Kavita Khandagale, Ann Salvekar attended the RYLA. The Inaugural Function was compered by Prof. Rupal Waghmare and the votes of thanks were extended by Dr. Manjusha Dhumal, Head, Department of English. In the first Session Dr. Pradnya Kulkarni talked about “What Makes an Effective Leader?” She said, “In order to become a leader, one has to be the leader of his/her life first. To lead once life successfully and confidently, one should know one’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. One should always accept all the challenges of life and become a successful leader.” In the second Session President Rtn Shirish Sebastian spoke on “The Exemplary Journey of Good Leaders”. “ In order to be a successful leader, one has to follow three f’s in life: freedom, friendship and fun. To become a leader one should be honest to one’s own self.” In the third Session Past President Rtn. Makarand Tillu set forth his views on “Communication Skills for Good Leaders”. According to Rtn. Tillu a good leader has to a good communicator. If he has communication skills, then he can be a good leader. In order to be a good communicator, the leader has to master the body language and tone. Past President Rtn. Divakaran Pillai was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Programme. He motivated the students with his influential speech and told the students that they have to focus on their goals of life and to work incessantly if they want to become good leaders. He also stated, “Good leaders are not born, they have to be made.” The Valedictory Programme was compered by Prof. Namrata Alhat and the Sessions were compered by Prof. Ashutosh Thakare.
