Manjoo Phadke. Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki is a Professor at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay. He is also Founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation and Brand Ambassador of Solar Energy for Govt. of MP in India. He is deeply worried by climate change and decided to take the 11 years long Energy Swaraj Yatra through a solar bus. He decided to live in a solar bus, without going home for 11 long years. There you will also find a world clock for climate control. The IPCC report affirms that temperature rise beyond 1.5 degree celsius will start irreversible climate change. The 1.5 degree celsius is the most important number for every human being. It is the number that all climate scientists are keeping an eye on. Did you know how much time is left before global warming touches the 1.5 degree celsius limit? Also Rotary club of chinchwad have initiated a course that is online for Energy Literacy. One has to register on energyswaraj.org. Registration and course is absolutely free of cost. The training makes users of energy a sensitive user. Without putting notices to appeal ‘save electricity’ reduction in electricity consumption by home and organizations is seen. For example, after imparting Energy Literacy Training to their employees, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the regulating body of Government of India, started saving about 20,000 to 22,000 units of electricity every month. It is seen that an Energy Literate user uses energy more carefully. It results in reduced energy usage and therefore not only helps in saving electricity bills but also reduces carbon emission. Each unit of electricity saved is saving about 1000 grams of CO2 emission. Also, Chetan Singh Solanki took a workshop on Climate change awareness and corrective actions to the students of Ramkrishna More College. More than 210 Students participated in the lecture. Principal of the college Dr. Manohar Chaskar inaugurated the lecture session. Vice principal Dr. Bejami Lobo, Vice Pricipal Hiralal Sonavne, were also present from the college organizing team. Rtn. Dr. Prof. Shilpagauri Ganpule successfully coordinated the RYLA with the guidance of President of RC Chinchwad Rtn. Yatish M Bhatt, and Secretary Rtn. Sachin Wadbudhe. Rtn. Prasad Ganpule, Rtn. Shriprasad Sohani and Rtn. Harsha Joshi were present during the event.
