The Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar has undertaken an innovative initiative to provide an alternative to plastic bags by distributing cloth bags. This initiative, led by former president and environment director Sudhir Chakole, aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental awareness in society. Through this project, cloth bags are being distributed to street vendors, residential societies, post offices, vegetable markets, and schools. The project aligns with Rotary's focus on environmental sustainability, and the club plans to distribute thousands of cloth bags within the Panvel Municipal Corporation area. This project has been successful due to the sponsorship of Rotarian Ashish Atre (in memory of his father, the late Prakash Atre) and Balakrishna Khedwal (in memory of his father, the late Devkinandan Khedwal). Members of the Interact Club and the Rotary Community Corps Empowered Women have also actively participated in this initiative. This reflects the club's goals of promoting environmental awareness among the younger generation and empowering women.
