The Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar has embarked on an innovative initiative to combat plastic pollution by distributing cloth bags, offering a sustainable alternative to plastic. As part of this project, the club is distributing cloth bags to street vendors, housing societies, post offices, vegetable markets, and schools, with a vision to reduce plastic waste and encourage environmentally friendly practices across the community. Today, the club took a significant step forward by distributing over 200 cloth bags to the teachers of K A Banthiya School in New Panvel. The teachers, led by the school's Principal, Madi Sir, have pledged to avoid using plastic bags, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability. Principal Madi Sir expressed his gratitude, noting that the school has partnered with the Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar on various initiatives, such as bicycle donations, and is looking forward to future youth-focused projects. The project is in perfect alignment with Rotary's focus on environmental conservation, aiming to distribute thousands of cloth bags within the Panvel Municipal Corporation area. These bags are not only economical and durable but also capable of carrying significant weight and resistant to heat, making them a superior alternative to plastic and paper bags. By promoting the use of cloth bags, the club aims to significantly reduce plastic waste and instill a culture of sustainability within the community. The success of this project is attributed to the generous sponsorship of Rotarian Ashish Atre, in memory of his father, the late Prakash Atre, and Balakrishna Khedwal, in memory of his father, the late Devkinandan Khedwal. The initiative was supported by key members of the club, including Secretary Mukund Chaudhary, First Lady Rotarian Shweta Khedwal, Past President Rotarian Sudhir Chakole, Rotarian Sunita Chaudhari (Service Project Director), and Rotarian Ravindra More, along with Sakina Gadiwala, Secretary of the National Society of the Friends of the Trees. Club President Arun Khedwal expressed his deep connection to this project, stating, "This project was my dream and is very close to my heart. Our aim is to make Panvel plastic-free and the cleanest city in India."
