The Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar organized a special celebration of Shree Krishna Janmashtami and Dahi Handi at Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Chinchavali Village, Panvel, on the 26th and 27th of August 2024. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is a social institution dedicated to the care of 30 orphaned children, ranging in age from 5 to 15 years, under the guidance of the ashram in-charge, Mr. Sandeep Shinde. The festivities began on the night of August 26th with a traditional Puja, followed by Bhajans and a lively dance performance by the children to Lord Krishna songs, creating a festive and spiritual atmosphere. The celebration continued the next day with the traditional Dahi Handi event, where the children eagerly participated in breaking the pot, symbolizing the playful spirit of Lord Krishna. The event was generously sponsored by Rotarian Dr. Dipak Khot, President of the Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar Club Charitable Trust and the Club Trainer. Dr. Khot, who has been actively involved in charitable work in remote areas for many years, including the donation of Ganpati idols, Kojagiri Pournima, and Tulsi Vivah celebrations, played a key role in making this event possible. Rotarian Alka Koli, Cultural Director, also played a significant role in enhancing the cultural aspects of the celebration. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mr. Sandeep Shinde and his family, the 30 children from Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, and prominent members of the Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar: Rotarian Arun Khedwal, President; Rotarian Puransingh Mehra, Vice President; Rotarian Mukund Chaudhari; Rotarian Dharmaraj Machigar; Rotarian Alka Koli; and Mrs. Khot. Rotary Club President Arun Khedwal emphasized the importance of celebrating festivals with these children, noting that they are far from home and that such events bring joy and a sense of belonging to their lives. The event was a grand success, leaving the children with cherished memories and a sense of community, thanks to the efforts of the Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar.
