Welcome to Rotary District 3131

Happy Village Project

This Rotary initiative seeks to identify villages where the basic infrastructure and facilities are lacking or need to be upgraded. It involves a long term development plan focussed on providing medical, water and sanitation facilities, literacy, vocational training, social welfare and agricultural setup and any other support required. This ultimately touches the life of the village community and promotes a happy sustainable environment conducive to a better quality of life.

In 2015, RCP Shivajinagar made a very satisfying start of the club’s “Happy Village Project”. The Club identified village Mazeri amongst the cluster of eight or nine small villages in Bhor taluka for the first phase of the project. It is a virgin land in the backwaters area of Nira Deoghar dam in Bhor region. Inspite of heavy rainfalls, the villages face water shortages in summer because the soil is such that rain water harvesting becomes a tough job. The schools cater to children from 1st to 7th standard children in one classroom only. There is no electricity. The villagers just depend on the farming and farm produce which are not sufficient. The young generation is migrating to towns and cities leaving old and very old population behind. The work will involve minimum 5 years of untiring efforts right from changing the mindset of the villagers. The Club has so far conducted a “Dental check-up”, “Eye check-up”, “Anaemia check-up for children from the 5th to 7th standards.
