While India was recently certified as polio-free, however, it is still a virus which can still affect kids under 5 years lethally by invading their nervous system. And, although, polio is incurable, it can certainly be prevented through proper immunization. On that note, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite organized a Polio awareness lecture students and adults residing in 11 different villages near Village Borgaon and Village Virani at Pen, Maharashtra on 19th November, 2017. Rtn. Dr. Swati Likhite, a Pediatrician and Rtn. Dr. Shailashree Kelkar told villagers belonging to rural and tribal villages like Borgaon, Virani, Dhangarmal, Kasmal A, Kasmal B, Yeloshi, Kotbi, Ketkavne, Kolhachiwadi, Khokraiwade and Bangalwadi about importance of getting their children vaccinated at the correct time from the nearest polio booth. Villagers seemed pleased to have received this talk as their tribal abode keeps them from any required health care information in an information-rich world we lives. This is the reality, as unfortunate as it may sound. The Polio awareness at this village draws even more importance and impact as the villagers residing in this tribal area till date wait for even slightest of enhancement in the medical facilities and healthcare to an extent that villagers don’t even know their blood groups. And we, at Rotary Club of Panvel Elite are determined to contribute to the progress of several small villages around Village Borgaon which will take us one step forward to our goal of Happy Village.
