This annual pai-waari or a pilgrimage on foot is a massive movement that has withstood the test of time. It is more than 700 years old. Every year 7-8 lakh devotees walk over 230 km from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur carrying the paduka or footprints of Saint Dyaneshwar and Saint Tukaram. The journey takes 15 days to reach its destination. Each year our club accompanies the devotees from Pune to Saswad carrying a message of social importance. This year a group of 31 Rotarians, Anns and friends of Rotary walked from Fursungi to Saswad. We carried placards to raise awareness for keeping the Environment clean, free of plastic, judicious use of water and promoting the use of cloth bags.
