The Rotary Club of Pune Ganeshkhind carried out a unique drive for protecting the waterbodies in the city during the ten-day Ganapati festival. The Club erected 5 large banners carrying a message for saving rivers at some startegic points in Pune. The spots were- a Ganapati immersiom ghat on the banks of the Mutha river in Aundh where thousands of people gather during the annual Ganapati Festival. People tend to throw used flowers, plaster of Paris and clay idols of the diety and other kinds of garbage and waste material into the Mutha. The creatively designed campaign by the Club spread the message of river conservation through a huge 10 feet X 10 feet hoarding.Club members also held interactions with the crowds who came to immerse idols. A total of five such hoardings were put across the city in association with the Pune Municipal Corporation thus creating awareness; 3 at river ghats and 2 near the crowded Peru Gate Police Station. The campaign was so successful.
