Rural primary schools in Dhamne, Karanjvihire, Pait and Shive villages outside Pune, India, have non usable and insufficient toilets for the students, because of which absenteeism and dropouts rates are high, especially among the girls. The GG175146 (project worth $36750) has Rotary Club of Fort Collins Breakfast as International partner and RC Khadki as our local partner. The total students beneficiaries are around 600 in the 4 schools. Construction of toilet blocks and handwash stations was completed . Handing over of completed blocks commenced from 13th August, along with intensive daily training in proper use of toilets and hand washing stations. Filtered clean drinking water was also provided. These awareness sessions are important for mindset change which the students must spread among their families. It will mark the end also to open urination and defecation. All session have been completed. Audit, and menstrual hygiene sessions have been completed. Summary 4 Rural schools at Pait, Shive, Karanjvihire and Dhamane. Intotal provided 4 toilets blocks, 28 toilets, 40 urinals, 4 handwash & drinking water stations with UV filters! Beneficiaries 590 students & 40 staff total! We completed 3 sessions of teachers, staff and students training with audit done for all 4 schools! Apart from this we have comducted mentrual hygiene awareness sessions at all for schools for adolescent girls aged 8 to 15. This has been reported elsewhere on the District website. We have applied for UNiceF One star certification and are awaiting the results of the same.
