On the occasion of Tree Plantation Day of our Rotary District, our club had organized a tree plantation program. The location Bhagwan Smruti Society, Bibwewadi, Pune was selected since it was in neglected state, has protected boundary walls on all sides and as the society agreed to maintain the trees after plantation. The plot was cleaned and weeds were removed. An expert horticulturist was consulted for selection of plants, sizes of pits, distances between pits etc. Accordingly total 23 pits of sizes 3 feet x 3 feet x 3 feet deep were dug with distance of 12 to 15 feet between each of them. It was decided that only trees of Indian origin would be planted which support biodiversity chain. Accordingly, trees of Neem, Bakul, Shami, Palas, Mahua, Arjun, Saptaparni, Sitashok, Taman, Peepal, Bel, Sonchapha, Kadamba, Shisham, Bahawa most of which are part of Nakshatra trees were planted. The trees planted were around 3 feet in height, so that they have better chance of survival. The soil used for plantation was mixed with organic manure
