24-10-2018 - 30-04-2019

Cervical cancer is a deadly cancer that starts in the cervix. The most effective way of preventing it's occurrence is by vaccinating in childhood. DG Dr Shailesh Palekar’s dream project of protecting adolescent girls against the deadly cervical cancer started to take shape in September. Rotary District 3131 is committed to this program and have sought International partners for doing Global Grants with most clubs participating. We are committed to make it a success like we did the “Polio eradication” program. Leading from the front Dr Palekar administered the first doze of the HPV vaccine himself on 8th September. On 19th September the DG held a special awareness program where the teams from MERCK conducted a training session for the key persons who would be conducting the vaccination drive from the clubs. The session was attended by our President. On 29th September RC Pune Sports City conducted awareness for Cervical Cancer for villagers, Sarpanch, teachers and parents of children at ZP Pratham Shaala at Nande . The parents asked questions that were aptly answered and parents showed willingness to get the children vaccinated. Consent forms were distributed for conducting the vaccination camp. On 24th October the first doze of Cervical cancer vaccination was administered by Dr Madhav Kankawale and team of doctors from Rural Hospital Chakan to 135 girls aged 9-14 at the ZP Nande school. The experience was unique, a revisiting of childhood. Some kids were scared, some bold, a few shivered, some cried but all went home smiling, secure in the feeling that they had been protected against the deadly Cervical Cancer. Anns lend a lot of support to the program. The second doze of Cervical cancer vaccination was administered on 26th April to the same girls. Four girls absent were brough to the Rural Hospital at hakan and administered the vaccine in the next week. The project concluded on 30th April. RCP.
