cervical cancer is ranked as the second most frequent cancer in women in India. Approximately, 132,000 new cases are diagnosed and approx 70,000 die annually. India accounts for nearly 1/3rd of the global cervical cancer deaths. The most common cause of cervical cancer is the HPV-human papillomavirus. It is estimated that, about 6.6% of women in the general population harbor cervical HPV infection. The above observations and need for vaccination for prevention of cervical cancer is well aligned with the American Cancer Society (ACS) report on cervical cancer treatment needs in India. Vaccines are available for the prevention of cervical cancer and its administration at a young age for girls is highly recommended. In the present project, 16 schools ( six tribal school and 10 private schools) from 36 villages in Ambegaon, Junnar, and Rajgurunagar areas are selected as our target community. Going by the population of these specific villages, there Twelve thousand female population and 18% would be in adolescence age. Hence our target beneficiaries are around 1700 girls between the age group of 9-1 years.
