Workers engaged in drainage cleaning have to work under inhuman conditions. It's a national shame that one such worker dies every five days and over 80% of these workers die before their retirement age of various diseases and health hazards. They suffer from low morale and self-esteem. The training program aimed at giving them self respect and bringing about behavioral change in their work and life. We also gave them protective equipment like gloves, goggles, jacket, gumboots, etc. The program involves 5 days of classroom training and 5 days of on-field training during which they were also trained in using mechanized cleaning equipment. This training enables them to form self-help groups and get cleaning contracts for specific areas from PMC. The training was conducted in association with KAM Foundation who are the domain experts in this area. At the end of the training, the participants were awarded certificates.
