26-02-2014 - 26-02-2014

Our Club celebrated International Nite on 26th Feb. 2014 at Poona Club Cinema hall. 15 Rotary Youth Exchange students from Mexico, Brazil, Sweden, Venezuela, Argentina and USA were the special invitees for the evening. It was a very fun-filled, colourful evening with “housefull” attendance. Beside the RYE students putting up a grand show, it was after a long time that so many club members took part in an entertainment programme. The programme, compered by the charming and witty Duriya Shipchandler, began with a Ganesh Vandana by Sarah Shipchandler followed by a dance performance by Anns Promil, Meena Latey, Priti, Vidya and Rita on the Bollywood number "Ainvay Ainvay Lut Gaya". The hidden talent of our club was unearthed in a skit by Anns Kripa and Neelam titled “The Forgetful Husband”. It was hilarious. The RYE students presented a dance on a medley of songs both Hindi and Marathi. The students dressed in colourful Marathi attire danced to perfection and had an innate sense of the rhythm. The members who trained them really deserve appreciation. The song “Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi” rendered by Jason, Avinash and Andrew, with Andrew and Avinash on their little guitars, in real rock style, stole everyone’s heart. Avinash and Andrew also gave a dance performance on Bollywood song “Desi Boys” which was loved by all. Annette Kashish Gupta, daughter of Rtn Rajesh & Ann Preeti. entertained us by her dance on “Kamli Kamli” from the movie “Dhoom 2”. The Ghazal by Jagjit Singh. “Mujh ko lotta doo Bachpan ka savan, wo kagaz ki kishti, wo barish ka panni” rendered in the melodious voice of Shravani Mookerji, daughter of Rtn President Biman was a pleasantsurprise. Ann Pammi & Mr Vikram Mehmi entertained us by singing the popular number “Udein jab jab zulphein teri” from film Naya Daur which had the audience tapping their feet and clapping to the beat. Rtn Deepti sprung a big surprise by giving a dance performance on the famous old Shamshad Begum song "Sainya dil me aana re". This was followed by another dance by RYE students, this time on a Hindi movie song. Kimaya Kudva played popular Hindi numbers from the film Bobby on the keyboard. A troupe of students from Anjuman-I-Islam Polytechnic performed the vibrant and energetic Mangala Gauri dance. Our program would have been incomplete without Rtn Rohinton singing his trademark “Jane Kahan Mera Jigar Gaya Ji” which we all enjoyed immensely. The programme ended with Sarah Shipchandler inviting the RYE students and the Anjuman Polytechnic performers to join her on stage to perform a dandiya. Soon the audience too joined her on the dance floor. The program was followed by Fellowship & Dinner perfectly organized by Rtn Ranveer. Our congratulations to Ann Promil Aggarwal, Chairman, International Nite, for making this programme a great success. Under her dynamic leadership with many members provided their unconditional support including Ann Meena Latey, Rtns. Oni Kakajiwala, PP Surinder Aggarwal, & PP Rajendra Nahar. Our special thanks to Rtn. Rashmi Kulkarni from Rotary Club of Parvati for organizing the presence of RYE students for the programme. We also thank Rtn Vasant Khedkar, Director RYE students for extending all cooperation.
