The New Generation Service of the Rotary recognizes the positive change implemented by youth through leadership development activities. Our club held a RYLA program at Wadia College on the 4th of February. The RYLA was focused on developing qualities of leadership good citizenship and personal development among the youth. The program was held from 9.00 am to 1.30 pm and comprised of four sessions. The program, ably conducted by our RYLA Chairman, PP Prixhusp Contractor, began with Vice President Dinaz Tarapore greeting the students and the College dignitaries. PP Subhas Sanzgiri gave the students a brief overview of Rotary as well as of RYLA and invited the students to participate whole-heartedly in the RYLA so as to “stride forward towards meaningful leadership in their lives and careers”. The first session conducted by Rtn Vaishali Bhagwat dealt with Cyber Security and Cyber Laws. She stressed to the students the importance of being safe while browsing the net and gave useful guidance to students on how to protect one’s privacy while using the computer or mobile phones. With the government and many other agencies being privy to any data you input on the computer, the net is “Safe to Use as well as Unsafe to Misuse”. The second session, conducted by Retd Lt Gen Shekatkar, titled “Dabang”, focused on the Holistic Development of the Youth. He inspired the students to aspire for knowledge rather than degrees, be focused on their goal and not be discouraged by difficulties along their path. He urged the students to remain motivated throughout their lives and have a desire to learn from whichever situation they are placed in. The third session, held after a 15-minute break, in which lunch packets were given to the students, was conducted by Col Brijkrishan, a powerful motivational speaker. He spoke about how to develop Leadership Skills. He told the students to follow the SOAR model: To assess one’s situation, get organized, act on one’s goal and strive towards the result; and to do that one must have confidence, vision and motivation. The last session, conducted by the extremely talented Mrs Manjiri Latey, dealt with Neuro-Linguistic Programming. The fascinating subject was made interesting by a series of simple tasks given to the students, which they participated in most enthusiastically. It is a topic which has the capacity to transform one’s life in a matter of days. Rtn PP Anil Latey giving a formal Vote of Thanks concluded the RYLA; before this Certificates of Participation were handed over to the students. Eight students were awarded for outstanding performance. The enthusiastic participation by the 150 students and 10 teachers heartened the Rotarians as well as the speakers.
