RCPS arranged heritage walk at famous “khinditla Ganapti “ on Sunday 8th sep. Many members and anns attended it . The program started with recitaion of “ Ganapati Atharvsheersh” which created a calm and pious enviornment . Modaks by Ann Netra and other Prasad was distributed. This temple is one of the famous 56 Ganpati Temples in India. The Temple was initially refurbished by Rajmata Jijabai, who by chance came across the shrine, on her visit to the Temple in Baner where she used to worship often. History quotes that during the tenure of Bajirao Peshwa the caretaker Shri Chitrav, found treasure in the ajoining well which he handed over to the Peshwa as per the rule of the land. However the treasure was not accepted, but the Peshwa told him to use it to refurbish the temple and the balance money was used to build the Omkareshwar Temple in Pune. This Temple in modern times was the place where the plot to assassinate Walter Rand, Chairman of the Special Plague Committee was conceptulised by the Chaphekar Brothers. That is the reason the coded message sent across to Shri Lokmanya Tilak by Shri Khanderao Sathe was “Khinditla Ganpati Pawla” after Rand was assasinated It was a pleasant surprise to know that our Shri Tatya Ranade’s family was associated with the refurbishing of the Temple during the tenure of one of his ancestors known as Contractor Ranade. Shri A. Bapat was kind enough to explain all the details with a historical viewpoint which made the meet all the more interesting. The program ended with aptly worded vote of thanks by Ann Vaishali and a small token of appreciation to Mr.Bapat from our club.
