Recently D3131 conducted exhaustive study of multiple stakeholders of Children Health (Healthcare service providers, Govt agencies, Published Medical Data by practitioner’s associations like IMA, FOGSI erc) in Pune District (part of D3131) and found a glaring need: Basic Vaccination regime is followed. Many schools and NGOs, like Rotary, conduct measles and rubella (MR) vaccination but awareness of Cervical Cancer or its prevention, especially prevention through vaccination against certain HPV strains at the most opportune age (9 to 14), is poor. This is in spite of the fact that Cervical Cancer is the second highest cause of female mortality among all cancers. The project seeks to increase Awareness of cervical cancer and vaccinate 1,035 girls in the 9 to 14 age group to protect them Cervical Cancer. Through this grant the 1,080 girls will receive 2 doses of HPV Vaccine six months apart (in months 0 and 6) to prevent the occurrence of cervical cancer in their bodies. The education and vaccination effort will be conducted in partnership with Schools and Primary Health Centers /Hospitals in the vicinity. The reputed gynecologist association, FOGSI, will guide the effort as Knowledge Partners.
