This project is a Humanitarian relief effort focused on the Detroit, Michigan area which has been greatly impacted by the worldwide pandemic. The Detroit area with an over 70% minority community has a large number of COVID-19 infections, greatly outpacing the prevalence of infection in other populations in the United States. Of those infected, the death rate is significantly higher than the average population affected by COVID 19. In addition, the pandemic has caused unemployment to spike to almost 50%, and poverty which had been in excess of 36% of residents before the pandemic has increased even further with the newly unemployed. As a result, many residents cannot afford basic needs, and 33% of the children between infants and 18 year old are not getting adequate food on a daily basis. Some of the local hospitals in the Detroit area especially the ones mostly serving Medicaid (Government program providing health care for poor people) patients are short of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for their front line workers treating Covid-19. Area Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities, who cater to the elderly population are also in acute need of PPEs to protect their workers and residents. Protecting the front line health care workers serving this disadvantaged population is critical to ensuring continuing access to health care during the pandem
