RC Pune University – Garden Benches for Old Age Home The Padmashree Annasaheb Behere Vruddha Niwas is an old age home located at Kharadi, run by a Trust headed by 90 year old Mr. Gole. The old age home was built entirely with donated funds and accommodates 80 inmates. They needed benches in their premises so that the residents could sit out in the sun during cold weather. They approached RCPU for the same, and the club agreed to provide their requirements. Several makers and suppliers of garden benches were approached and different products available were examined. Benches available were of several types including, cast iron, welded steel, cement concrete, wood, with hand rests, without hand rests and in many colours. Finally a lightweight and economical steel design with hand rests was selected and ordered. On receipt of the material in Pune, we got the benches letter painted to identify them as ‘A Gift from Rotary Club of Pune University’ and delivered them to the site 20th March 2015. A formal handing over ceremony was held at the venue on 2nd April 2015, attended by Director – Service Projects Satish Mohile, PP Pradip Patil, First Lady Shobhana and President Dileep. Mr. Gole, Chairman and Ms. Ravibala Kakatkar, a Trustee of the Vruddha Niwas expressed deep gratitude to RCPU for this speedy help. She said the benches will provide great comfort to the aged people residing at the Institution, and will help improve their health. RCPU members who visited the place found it to be a very neat & clean, well managed place run by a dedicated group of people.
