TEACH Program – The Literacy Mission HAPPY SCHOOL: Personality Development Study Skills Workshop by RCPU Hutatma Rajguru School is an institution associated with the great social worker and reformer Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil. It caters to girls from very low income families. Most of the students are children of housemaids and other is similar occupations, migrant workers and semi-nomadic communities. When they approached RCPU for help, we decided to take a look at the school. First Lady Shobhana – Chairperson of the Literacy Committee of RCPU alongwith PP Pradip and Director Youth Services - PP Rekha who visited the school on 14th July, were extremely impressed by the dedication and commitment of the staff there. They were pained to find that many students, who are adolescents, themselves have to work and earn some money to make ends meet because menfolk in their families are addicted to drinking. As a first step, it was decided to provide guidance to the children on how to improve their own school performance. For this, a program of ‘Study Skills Workshop’ extending over two days was held on 18th & 19th July’14. This program, conducted jointly with RC Kothrud, was attended by more than 80 girls from classes 8th to 10th.
