Reaching the underprivileged – RC Pune University continues it tradition For the past many years, RC Pune University has been continuously supporting an Old Age Home for aged destitutes at Sinhgad Paitha. This institution Sevadham Vruddhashram, run by the renowned social worker Pratibhatai Paigude not only provides shelter, it also provides food, clothing and medical care to the helpless old people. The founder is so dedicated to her work that she is going to be honoured by Industrialist Mr. Arun Firodia for the work. RCPU supports the cause by providing not just financial help but also provides materials of various types. Last year we provided Rexene covered mattresses needed by the aged sick persons that would go to make their life a bit more comfortable. This year, RCPU increased it cash assistance to Rs.25000/- and also provided many sets of household goods. These goods were entirely funded by Rtns. Jitendra and Jyotsna Joshi. In addition, President Dileep Paranjpye collected large quantity of surplus clothes from some housing societies, which were also handed over to the Vruddhashram. PP Kshama Gangoli, together with PP Ajit, PP Vinay Rao and Meeta, Anjali Hiremath, Satish Mohile personally delivered the materials to the institution on 13th September 2014, sweetening the gifts by adding sugar and fruits. Another big contribution was made by Rtn. Supriya Galande who collected money by selling her paintings. She donated the entire amount oRs.11000/- for Niwasi Matimand Vidyalaya, a school for mentally retarded children from poor families. RCPU has been associated with this institution for the last 2 years having provided them with a Solar Water Heater and rebuilding of their sanitation facilities. Rtn. Supriya’s help was gratefully accepted by the founder Mr. More. He said he depends on such generous people, because getting any governmental assistance without greasing palms, has been impossible. RC Pune University remains conscious of its duty towards the underprivileged people of the Society, and does not forget them even when doing its tiny bit.
