RC Pune University participates in Dengue Awareness and Prevention Campaign District 3131, in collaboration with Pune Municipal Corporation, carried out a huge Dengue Awareness and Prevention Campaign on Saturday, 22nd November 2014. Pune city is reeling under the spread of this viral sickness, caused by the virus spread through bites of Aedes Egypti mosquitoes. There is no known cure for the sickness except rest and the patient’s own resistance. But it is possible to prevent its spread, by eliminating the mosquitoes themselves. The right way to do this is to stop the insects from breeding. And it is very clearly known that they breed in stagnant water. Thus, preventing water accumulation, emptying out any pots or cavities where water can stagnate, is an effective way to prevent the spread of dengue. The Rotary-PMC Campaign focused on making people aware of this. To do it, nearly 65 autorikshaws were hired. Each rikshaw had a banner on its front and a sound system that gave he message on dengue prevention. RCPU contributed to this mission by providing 2 vehicles, which went around various predetermined areas of the city. Rtn. Vidyanand Joshi, who represented RCPU at the launch point of the rikshaws, was pleasantly surprised when one such vehicle came into his own housing colony. City Deputy Mayor Aba Bagul who also lives there was very appreciative of Rotary’s efforts and help in this important mission.
