On 23rd July 2021, the community based Interact Club of Poona Downtown received its official charter from Rotary International. Since then, the members of the club had been meeting virtually to get to know each other better and understand more about Interact. The members of the Interact Club are primarily from 3 schools in the city – St. Mary’s, Symbiosis Secondary School and Gurukul School. The mixed group is from the 8th, 9th and 10th standards. On Sunday, 12th September a small physical installation ceremony was organized for the members of the Club. The event took place at Hotel Raviraj on Bhandarkar Road. District Interact Chair, Rtn. Asha Amonkar graced the occasion as Chief Guest. President Rtn. Asis Ray and First Lady Ann Ipsita Ray were also present. As were Rtn. Professor P.N.N. Iyer and Ann Sheila Iyer. Two of the parents (Mrs. Madhura Kashelikar and Mrs. Kavita Pande) who have volunteered to be ‘parent mentors’ for the charter club helped with all the arrangements and the execution of the program. Chief Guest Rtn. Asha Amonkar installed the charter president, secretary and treasurer. President Rtn. Asis Ray led the members as they took their oath. He also handed over the charter to the president of the newly formed club. In her speech, Rtn. Asha reiterated a few points from the Interact District Assembly, encouraging the members to formulate plans for their projects and reach out to the district in case they need any guidance. In her speech as Charter President, Interactor Ananya Agashe spoke about the Club’s desire to work on projects related to the girl child, environment conservation, raising awareness on socially relevant issues and the importanceof cyber safety. President Rtn. Asis Ray spoke encouraged the children to begin their projects and assured them of support in the form of mentors from the parent club of Poona Downtown. At the end of the event, packed snacks were distributed to all who were present
