On December 21, 2022, Bhugaon pledged to become a plastic bag-free town and expressed the desire to export paper bags to Pune. Inspired by Nagarsevika Madhuritai Sahasrabudhe, supported by Rotary Club of Pune Central, and organized by Green TERRE Foundation and Grampanchayat Bhugaon, the students and self-help women groups were given training in making paper bags as an alternative to plastic bags. Sarpanch Ms. Vanita Tangde, youth representative of Bhugaon Mr. Kalidas, and paper bag-making trainer Ms. Vishakha Vichare were present.
