The primary goal of an Adult Literacy Center is to help adults improve their literacy abilities, which in turn can have a significant impact on their personal, social, and professional lives. The services offered at an Adult Literacy Center typically include: Basic Literacy Instruction: Adult learners who have little or no reading and writing skills receive fundamental instruction to help them develop the necessary foundational skills. Reading and Writing Improvement: Adults with some basic literacy skills but who still struggle with reading comprehension and written communication can receive targeted instruction to enhance their abilities in these areas. English as a Second Language (ESL): Adult learners who are non-native English speakers and need assistance in learning or improving their English language skills can enroll in ESL programs offered at the center. High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation: Many Adult Literacy Centers provide preparation classes for individuals who did not complete high school but wish to obtain an equivalent credential, such as the General Educational Development (GED) certificate or other recognized equivalency exams. Support Services: In addition to the core instructional programs, Adult Literacy Centers may offer additional support services, such as counseling, career guidance, referrals to other resources in the community, and assistance with accessing further education or job training opportunities.
