Tuberculosis is one of the most lethal scourges affecting practically every population in the world, especially in developing countries like India. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India accounts for 28 percent of all TB cases worldwide, according to the Global TB Report 2022. Indian Prime Minister Mr. MODI has set an aggressive goal of TB eradication by 2025 under the flagship NATIONAL TUBERCULOSIS ERADICATION PROGRAM (NTEP). Identification, treatment, NUTRITION, and patient tracking is the only way to cut this chain. The District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC) and DTO (District TB Officer) are the nodal point for all TB elimination activities in the district. An innovative program called Ni-kshay Poshan Yojna was begun, aiming to provide an adequate level of balanced NUTRITION to the poor TB patients. All the testing and cost of the treatment is borne by the government of India and for NUTRITION government depended on organizations like ROTARY. RCPD decided to get involved in from May 2023 through Ni-kshay Poshan Yojna by providing NUTRITION to 175 TB patients from May 2023. In the year 2023-24 PRESIDENT Rtn Aruba Rathi RCPD decided to extend this program by providing NUTRITION PACKAGE to 150 more patients in PUNE. Funding for this leg has come from RCPD members like Rtns Anil Goel/Zimra/Aruna Rathi/Vinod Dua/Dipti Bhosle/Pinky Mehmi/Dipika Chaddha/Sujata and a donor Mr Bhutani etc. The periodic test reports clearly show that all patients weight Loss was stopped in 2-3 months and at the end of six months all the patients gained 2-5 kg of weight, which is significant. We hope NUTRITION DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMME becomes yet another flagship project of RCPD, at least over the next few years.
