Rotary 3131 - Project Details

01-07-2024 - 31-01-2025

This project by the Rotary Club of Pune Central is based on the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM- SHRI) scheme, which promotes the concept of "Green Schools" with a curriculum aligned with a broader vision of the National Education Policy, 2020 which in turn emphasises the integration of technology in education to enhance learning outcomes and prepare students for the digital age. The project focuses on two goals of the Rotary Club: (a) supporting education and, (b) protecting the environment by utilizing clean, green energy. Under this project, various schools listed in the PM-SHRI scheme will be provided with the installation of green computers that can be efficiently powered by solar panels at an affordable cost. By adopting green computer technology, including monitors consuming less than 30 watts energy compared to traditional computers consuming more than 120 watts, we will be able to power computer labs comprising up to 10 green computers using rooftop solar panels, while considering the limited space available on rooftops. Although the project was initially envisioned in 2020-21, the planning phase had to be delayed due to the covid pandemic lockdown and travel restrictions. The project planning commenced in 2021-2022, and a thorough study of various schools, specifically the PM-SHRI beneficiaries, was carried out during 2022-2023. The selection of schools involved interviewing principals and conducting site visits. Eleven schools have been chosen for this particular project, where the Rotary Club of Pune Central will establish Computer Labs in accordance with the PM-SHRI scheme guidelines (Copy attached). This includes setting up maximum 10 green computers per school. More than 2,500 students will benefit when this project is fully implemented. The beneficiaries will have access to computer and internet for much longer hours during the working of the school, thereby help develop their basic learning skills as well as gainful employment skills by obtaining variety of knowledge through DIKSHA platform provided by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India
