The First Free Eye Check Up Camp, held in the Ramtekadi slum area, was organized by The Rotary Club of Pune Cantonment on Sunday 6th December 2009 with the help of the H.V. Desai Eye Hospital. This camp was a part of our mega Free Eye Check Up and Cataract Surgeries Project. This camp was sponsored by the Arhatic Yoga Ashram Management Trust, the Yoga Vidya Pranic Healing Foundation of Maharastra, and A. Dinshaw & Co. Dr. Shahane, who is a social worker in this area, and his volunteers helped our club for organizing this camp. He had given a hall, tables, and chairs to the doctors for checking the patients. A total of four doctors came from H.V. Desai Hospital for the check up camp along with an ambulance for those who required hospitalization for cataract surgery or any other problems. This camp started at 10.00 A.M. and lasted up to 1.00 P.M It had an overwhelming response from the slum dwellers. A total of 461 people checked their eyes. Out of those, 152 reading glasses were distributed and 16 patients were shifted to H.V. Desai Hospital for cataract surgery.
