The Deepstambh group is a group of like minded youngsters, who do a lot of social service. One very important and relevant thing presently, is avoiding the use of plastic bags, which cause a lot of damage to the environment. Since plastic bags are not bio-degradable and recyclable, when disposed, they clog up our waterways and drainage pipes, which leads to flooding during the monsoons. This group teaches people to make different types of paper bags from raddi newspapers. This Saturday , their group comprising of Rupal, Pooja, Anushka & Rohit taught our Interactors of Lady Hawabai Girls School to make 3 different varieties of paper bags. Around 45 girls, were divided into 3 groups learnt this art very enthusiastically. . We also learnt paper bag making. It was also emphasized by President Veena to the girls, that this activity can be very profitably be used to earn extra income, as a lot of shops in camp have started using paper bags following a ban from Pune Muncipal Corporation. The school is planning to organize collection of newspapers from a lot of people as donation and turn this as a regular activity to generate funds to be used for the making a Library.
