Rotary 3131 - Project Details

17-01-2016 - 17-01-2016

17 January, 2016 was observed as the National immunization Day for offering Polio Drops to thousands of children across the country. This being a thrust area of Rotary International for years, all the Rotary Clubs help Doctors and volunteers at the booths where they conduct the program of giving polio drops to the children. It was a long journey of RI jointly with the Government and other organizations for the eradication of Polio which resulted in declaring India ‘Polio Free’ in the year 2012. In spite of this declaration, we are continuing the campaign and working for the immunization of the babies because across the borders, in Pakistan and Afghanistan, still we find a few cases of Polio every year. So RI mission of Polio Eradication is continuing. This year our club was assigned the duty to help the Booths under Dhole Patil Road Ward Office along with two other Rotary Clubs. We discussed and divided our duties; accordingly RCPD’s duty was to provide transport for the volunteers to go to different booths and slum areas. Director, Rotary Foundation, Mahendra Chandiramani, Chairman, Polio Committee Subir Guha along with President Supriya reached the Ward Office at Dhole Patil Road at 7.45 am . Dr.Arvind Makhar, the Ward Medical Officer was in charge of the project. We provided them a car for eight hours which they would use to visit the various booths and slums. About 40 volunteers, all girls from a Nursing College, arrived the venue by 8 am. They were all divided into different groups and Dr. Makhar explained to them their duties. Each group was given an ice-box with the medicine(polio drops) in it. It was a very well organised program. At the end of the day, from the Dhole Patil Ward Office, total 10,260 children were given polio drops.
