Rotary Club of Pune Sports City awarded Vocational Excellence award to Dr. Sanjeev Jadhav, renowned heart and lung surgeon on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at well attended function held at the Green Park Hotel, Baner, Pune. Dr. Jadhav has created awareness about organ donations through his Heart Transplant surgeries. Dr Sanjeev Jadhav is a renowned heart and lung surgeon in the country. Currently working as a chief heart surgeon at Jehangir Hospital, consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Ruby hall clinic ,N.M.Wadia hospital,Inamdar hospital in pune and heart-lung transplant surgeon at Fortis Hospital, Mumbai. Dr.Sanjeev jadhav has done MBBS,MS[GENERAL SURGERY] from B.J.medical college pune.He has done superspecialisation MCH & D.N.B. in cardiothoracic surgery from mumbai university.Dr Jadhav has taken advanced training in adult and pediatric heart surgery from Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Children Hospital in Australia. He has also done a heart-lung transplant fellowship at St Vincent's Hospital, Australia, which is one of the premier heart surgery institutes of the world. In the recent past, Dr Jadhav and his team have achieved milestones in the medical history of our country. 1- FIRST SUCCESSFUL HEART TRANSPLANT IN MAHARASHTRA AND WESTERN INDIA ON 3.8.2015 IN FORTIS HOSPITAL MUMBAI & JEHANGIR HOSPITAL, PUNE. 2- FIRST SUCCESSFUL HEART RETRIEVAL IN MAHARASHTRA FOR HEART TRANSPLANT IN BRAIN DEAD PATIENT IN PUNE AT JEHANGIR HOSPITAL ON 3.8.2015. 3- FIRST SUCCESSFUL INTERCITY HEART RETRIEVAL,TRANSPORT AND TRANSPLANT IN MAHARASHTRA. [PUNE TO MUMBAI], IN RECORD TIME OF 1HR.30 MINS. 4- FIRST SUCCESSFUL HEART RETRIEVAL IN MUMBAI ON 7.8.2015, AT MGM HOSPITAL. 5- THREE SUCCESSFUL HEART TRANPLANTS IN 1 MONTH IN FORTIS HOSPITAL MUMBAI IN MAIDEN ATTEMPT WHICH SHOWED GREAT INCREASE IN AWARENESS IN ORGAN DONATION IN THE SOCIETY ESPECIALLY PUNE AND MUMBAI AFTER FIRST HEART TRANSPLANT. 6- FIRST SUCCESSFUL INTERSTATE HEART TRANSPLANT IN WESTERN INDIA-GUJARAT TO MAHARASHTRA ON 19.12.2015 The first heart transplant in the country was attempted in 1968 at KEM Hospital in Mumbai but it took 47 years to do a successful heart transplant in Maharashtra. This is a major scientific achievement for this part of India. This transplant surgeries are type of advanced heart surgery which is done regularly only in a few first-world countries. This scientific achievement will enable us to save lives of dying patients and the successful attempt has brought about a big change and awareness in the society as many people are coming forward to register for the organ donation in urban as well as rural Maharashtra especially after recent heart retrieval from Aurangabad on 30 jan 2016.. This historic event of heart transplant has caused a big revolution in the society and many patients are coming forward for organ donation. Dr Sanjeev Jadhav along with his team in mumbai are first in Western India to conduct this heart transplant and among the first 10 in country to do so and only few surgeons in the country who has conducted heart, lung and kidney transplants. Dr. Sanjeev accepted and dedicated the same to the lady donor as without her, the transplant would not have been possible. He shared his experience about heart donation in Maharashtra with the august gathering. Padma Vibhushan Dr. K.H. Sancheti presided as chief guest of the function. He appreciate the achievements of Dr. Sanjeev and stressed that medical surgeons need not to be more risk averse and sincerely hopes that Dr. Sanjeev will make Pune more proud with his new accomplishments. Dr. S.L. Kotbagi was awarded certificate of appreciation for 50 years of untiring and meritorious medical services and for private philanthropy.
