Rotary Club of Pune Central in partnership with “VaccineOnWheels” (VoW) and the Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations has started India's first and only doctor based Mobile Vaccine clinic to administer the Covid-19 Vaccines. The project is a good example of a successful ‘Public-Private Partnership’.
“VaccineOnWheels” run by Rtn Jignesh Patel of RC Pune Central is a one-stop mobile vaccination clinic that creates hospital-like sterile setups near the communities requiring vaccination services.
The municipal corporations provide the vaccines and identify the locations where the vaccination booth will be set up. They also provide space for the registration, vaccination, and observation areas. The clinic is run as a free vaccination centre of the government.
The Mobile Vaccination units are equipped with cold-chain facilities and an AEFI kit to handle cases of Adverse Event Following Immunization. They are manned by a trained doctor, 2 trained nurses, IT assistant for COWIN registration and a social worker to mobilize the beneficiaries.
With the financial support of our CSR partners, Persistent Systems, BMC Software & Icertis, 5 Mobile clinics are already operational in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad since 17th April 2021. Over 17,000 vaccines have already been administered. CSR partners generously contributed over Rs.1 crore towards this initiative.
The project was officially flagged-off by the Mayor of Pune - Mr Murlidhar Mohol, the Municipal Commissioner - Mr Vikram Kumar, and the Additional Municipal Commissioner - Ms. Rubal Agarwal.
Looking at the success of this initiative in Pune, the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai has also entered into a PPP arrangement with VoW for deploying the service in Mumbai. Municipal corporations of other cities like Satara, Goa, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar and Puri have also evinced interest in doing similar mobile vaccination camps.
