The LN4 camp at Erode was organised by a NGO , Jeevan Jothi Trust .This NGO provides Jaipur Foot and this was a natural extension to their work. Suresh Agarwal , The head of Jeevan Jothi Trust is a dynamic organizer who made all proper arrangements for the camp. We left by the early morning flight to Coimbatore on 14th September. Erode was a two hour drive from Coimbatore. We were amazed by this small city, which was spotless clean. Well developed , with Top brands opening their outlets, Erode is known for its turmeric production and also for its hosiery industry. The Camp was held at the Kasianna Gounder Hosptal and right away after we reached we started with our presentation and training of the volunteers. Our Co-partners were Rotary Club of Mettupalayam, where we had a camp earlier in this year. They joined us in organizing and training the volunteers, who were trainee nurses from the Vellalar College of Nursing . These trainees were quick to pick up the work and they provided top quality support to our two days at the camp. On the first day we fitted 39 hands and on the second day another 159 hands leading to a satisfactory total of 198 fitments. We have noticed and more so in the south that the local Jain samaj is in forefront of this social work. They are well versed in Hindi and hence we did not have any language problem. The nurses spoke English and translated all our instruction to the beneficiaries. We had our dynamic volunteer from Chennai, Ms. Rukmani, who had earlier participated in our earlier camps, joining us and counseling the beneficiaries in Tamil In all an excellent and rewarding camp.
