Ethiopia doesn't have skilled doctors performing endoscopic surgeries. As a result patients who can afford go aboard for getting treatment but the poor patients have to live in misery and pain for want of treatment. Having come to know this state of affairs through our member Rtn. PP Vinod Agarwal who has some factories in Ethiopia, we decided to take up this project during our golden jubilee year. We tied up with St. Pauls Hospital, Addis Ababa which is the largest public hospital in Ethiopia. We partnered with Lokmanya Hospitals Pune who gave us a sponsorship Rs. 10,000,00 and also provided 2 skilled doctors as part of the team. The team included highly skilled and experiend doctor specializing in Gynaecology, Orthopedics, Urology, and General Surgery. In addition we had 2 Anaesthetis and 5 volunteers. In a camp over 5 days we conducted 100 highly complex and critical surgeries. An equally important part of the project was knowledge transfer and training. Local surgeons who accompanied our doctors during surgeries and learnt the techniques. Our doctors also conducted classroom training sessions for the local surgeaons and medical students. The surgeaons at St. Pauls Hospitals were deeply impressed by the learning the got and expressed their feelings in the words like, " What we learnt ispPriceless", "This camp has made history in Ethiopia as most of the surgeries have been performed for the first time in our country". The press conference for this camp was atteded by India's Embassdor to Ethiopia, HE Anurag Shrivastava and Ethiopian Council General in Mumbai HE Temeke Atnafu Ambulo and the event was widely covered in the Print, Digital and Electronic media in Ethiopia. Mr. Anurag Shrivastav hailed this camp as an important landmak in India Ethiopia relations. We also had excellent interaction with Rotary Club of Addisa Ababa West and Presidents of other Rotary Clubs in Addis Ababa
