Rotary Club of Pune University – Mammography and PAP Smear Test Camp RC Pune University conducted a free Mammography and PAP Smear Test Camp on 18th Decembers 2014 at Siddhivinayak College, Karve Nagar. The camp was intended to provide these expensive tests to women who find them unaffordable. Patients enrolling for the tests were teaching and non-teaching staff from the college and similar institutions. RCPU’s Director – Medical Projects, Dr. Jyotsna Joshi who came to the camp in spite of being extremely busy, familiarized women staff members of the college about the tests. She elaborated on the need, process and benefits from these tests. Her talk was a great help to women who are often apprehensive about the procedures. Rtn. Avinash Bhondve, Director – Medical Services Projects of District 3131 elaborated on the subject by providing information about prevalence and trends of cervical and breast cancers among women in various age groups. President Dileep Paranjpye concluded the session by emphasizing that these tests aim at ‘Prevention is better than cure’. 37 women over 40 years age, were able to take the tests, which help in early detection of cancers. A wonderful feature of the camp was that it was entirely ‘manned’ by lady Rotarians from our Club. PP Kshama Gangoli who initiated the project, did tremendous amount of work of coordination with Prashanti Hospital and was at the camp for its entire duration. First Lady Shobhana spared no efforts in getting the huge equipment laden bus into the College campus through narrow lanes. PE Deepa Gadgil, PP Rekha Patil, Rtns. Sujata Kulkarni, Meeta Rao, Kumudini Chaudhari, Neelima Bhosale, Rohini Mohile and Madhumati Joshi worked with on-site arrangements throughout the day. It is this spirit of service which makes Rotarians stand out in any crowd!!
